Marine Park Rules & Restrictions

Pulau Payar is a protected Marine Park with controlled visitor access. Only 100 visitors are allowed per week, shared between licensed operators, and every visit is subject to Marine Park quota approval.

Pulau Payar is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday. The Marine Park also closes every year from March to May for reef recovery and conservation.

Operators are required to apply for visitor quota approval a few days before the trip. Approval is based on availability and is normally given on a first come, first served basis. Because of this, advance booking is highly recommended, especially during busy travel periods.

To protect the reef, please do not feed fish or sharks, do not touch or stand on coral, do not collect shells, coral or marine life, and do not leave rubbish behind. Fins are not allowed at the main beach snorkeling area unless your guide or Marine Park officer gives specific permission.

Pulau Payar is a natural marine environment. Sea conditions, visibility and currents can change daily. Please listen to your safety briefing, stay with your guide and respect the reef at all times.
